About

Congregation Albert was founded in Albuquerque on 26 September 1897 and formally incorporated in the New Mexico Territory in 1902. Its original members first met through local halls, including the Knights of Pythias Hall and later the Jolly Ten Hall on Gold Avenue. The congregation laid the cornerstone for its first purpose-built temple at Gold Avenue and Seventh Street in 1899 and dedicated the building in 1900. In 1951 it moved to a new mid-century synagogue on Lead Avenue SE. In 1984 the congregation moved again to its current campus at 3800 Louisiana Boulevard NE. Historic sacred objects from the earlier buildings, including the ner tamid and other furnishings, were carried forward, underscoring the continuity of the institution across changing locations.
